WARDOGS SVD Build and Season 2 Verdict

By · Checked in game · Updated 4 Nov 2026 · Early Access
The short answer

The WARDOGS SVD is a semi-auto marksman rifle at Recon level 12 for $4,800 a life. The build to aim for is the Hexagon 762 Suppressor, the SVD Bipod, the 3x-6x LPVO and the 10-round magazine, about $8,030 in all. Season 2 made it slower: 5 chest hits through a level 2 vest instead of three. Aim at the groin, where vests up to level 3 give no protection, and it kills in 3.

SVD Dragunov marksman rifle in WARDOGS

The SVD (the Dragunov) fires 7.62x54mm at 512 rounds a minute from a 5-round magazine. The Mosin, SV98 and PKM fire the same round, so you can resupply from anyone running one. It is the second marksman rifle on the Recon tree, after the SKS at Recon 5.

Is the SVD still good in Season 2?

It is a solid stopgap, not a destination. Season 2 cut marksman damage to the chest and stomach, and the SVD went from three chest hits through a level 2 vest to 5. On paper it still keeps up with the 5.56 rifles: 469 ms through a level 2 vest against 542 ms for the Galil. That only holds if every semi-auto shot lands, which is harder than holding a trigger. Where the SVD earns its slot is mid range on the Recon tree, before the BMR-308 at Recon 20 and the full-auto M14 at Recon 25.

The SVD against the other Recon rifles (FMJ, Season 2)
RifleUnlockPer lifeChest hits, no vestChest hits, level 2Time, level 2
SKS Recon 5 $2,400 3 5 577 ms
SVD Recon 12 $4,800 3 5 469 ms
BMR-308 Recon 20 $6,250 3 4 385 ms
M14 Recon 25 $7,400 3 4 252 ms
Mosin-Nagant Recon 10 $4,500 1 2 1250 ms

Read the last column with the fire rate in mind. The Mosin's 2 hits take 1250 ms because of the bolt, while the SVD's 5 land in 469 ms. The BMR-308 saves one chest hit through a level 2 vest for $1,450 more a life. The SKS needs the same hits as the SVD for half the price but has a shorter listed range (400 against 800).

The best SVD build, slot by slot

SVD attachments with vendor prices and unlocks
SlotAttachmentCostUnlockWhy
MuzzleHexagon 762 Suppressor$1,210Recon 15Cuts the sound and the muzzle flash, and trims vertical recoil, horizontal recoil and spread at once. The aim-in cost is moderate. A suppressed SVD can keep firing from one spot without lighting itself up.
GripSVD Bipod$1,120Recon 14Takes the recoil close to nothing when you are prone or resting on a ledge. It does nothing standing, so it only pays off if you play from cover.
Optic3x-6x LPVO Short Dot$860Recon 11Switches between 3x for mid-range follow-ups and 6x for long lanes. Strong aim-in penalty, so aim before you peek, not after.
MagazineSVD 10 RND Magazine$40Recon 17Doubles the 5-round stock magazine for $40. It takes a 1x2 backpack slot instead of 1x1.

The full kit is $3,230 in attachments, $8,030 with the rifle. Until the suppressor unlocks at Recon 15, run the SVD 7.62x54R Brake ($650, Recon 13), the 6x Precision Rifle Scope that every player starts with ($680) and the stock 5-round magazine ($20). That budget version costs about $6,150 a life and trades the suppressor's quiet for straight vertical control.

How many hits does the SVD need to kill?

SVD with FMJ: hits to kill by body part and armour level (L1 to L4; head counts the helmet, the body counts the vest)
HitNoneL1L2L3L4
Head 22233
Chest 34557
Stomach 34557
Groin 33337
Arm 444410
Leg 55555
SVD: chest hits to kill with each round, by vest level
RoundNoneL1L2L3L4
FMJ (standard) 34557
Hollow point 29121826
Armour-piercing 44455

Three things stand out:

  • The groin beats the chest. Vests at level 1 to 3 do not cover it, so the SVD needs 3 groin hits against 4 to 5 to the chest. Aim a little low.
  • Headshots take two. Even a bare head needs 2 hits. The upside is that a level 2 helmet still only needs 2.
  • Level 4 is where it falls apart. A level 4 vest covers the groin too, and standard rounds need 7 hits anywhere on the body.

Which ammo should the SVD use?

Standard FMJ for most of a wipe, then armour-piercing once level 3 and 4 vests show up. Armour-piercing holds the SVD at 4 chest hits up to a level 2 vest and 5 through level 4, against 7 with standard rounds. The catch is the unlock: 7.62x54 armour-piercing waits until Career level 82 and costs $75,000 to unlock.

Skip hollow points on the SVD

7.62x54 hollow points (Career 28) kill a bare chest in 2 hits, but any vest turns them useless: 9 chest hits through level 1 and 12 through level 2. Only load them if you are hunting players who skip armour.

How to shoot the SVD

The SVD climbs less than the other marksman rifles but wobbles a lot between shots. Spamming the trigger sprays, so pace each shot and let the sight settle. Fight from a ledge or prone with the bipod down whenever you can, because that is the only time its recoil disappears.

Count your rounds. Five in the stock magazine is one kill through a level 2 vest with nothing spare, so get the 10-round magazine at Recon 17 before anything cosmetic. Keep fights at mid range. Up close, one missed shot hands the trade to an automatic rifle, and at long range a bolt-action one-shots you first. The recoil guide has the pattern for every marksman rifle.

Frequently asked questions

Is the SVD good in WARDOGS Season 2?

It is usable but no longer a top pick. Season 2 cut marksman damage to the upper body, so the SVD needs 5 chest hits through a level 2 vest, up from three. It is still the strongest marksman rifle you can buy before the BMR-308 at Recon 20, and aiming at the groin brings it back to 3 hits.

What are the best SVD attachments in WARDOGS?

The Hexagon 762 Suppressor ($1,210, Recon 15), the SVD Bipod ($1,120, Recon 14), the 3x-6x LPVO Short Dot ($860, Recon 11) and the SVD 10 RND Magazine ($40, Recon 17). That is $3,230 on top of the $4,800 rifle.

What level do you unlock the SVD in WARDOGS?

The SVD unlocks at Recon level 12 for $50,000 cash and costs $4,800 a life. The 10-round magazine follows at Recon 17.

Does the SVD one-shot a headshot in WARDOGS?

No. With standard rounds it takes 2 headshots even on a bare head, and 3 through a level 3 or 4 helmet. For one-shot heads you need a bolt-action such as the Mosin-Nagant.

SVD or Mosin in WARDOGS?

The Mosin if you land your first shot: it kills an unarmoured chest or a head through a level 2 helmet in one hit, but the next shot takes over a second. The SVD if you fight at mid range and need follow-ups: 5 chest hits through a level 2 vest land in 469 ms.
