WARDOGS SKS Build: The First DMR, Level by Level
The WARDOGS SKS is the first marksman rifle on the Recon tree: level 5, $2,400 a life. Build it with the SKS Bipod at Recon 7, the DTK-1 Brake at Recon 9 and the starting 6x scope, about $4,710 a life. In Season 2 it needs 5 chest hits through a level 2 vest but only 3 to the groin, so aim low. Treat it as the rifle that carries you to the Mosin at Recon 10 and the SVD at Recon 12.
The SKS fires 7.62x39 at 416 rounds a minute. The starter Scout Rifle TD is a bolt-action, so the SKS is the first Recon gun that lets you put a second shot on target before the enemy reaches cover. That follow-up is the whole reason to buy it.
Is the SKS worth it in Season 2?
For the first stretch of the Recon tree, yes. After that, no. Season 2 cut marksman damage to the chest and stomach and raised the SKS's groin and limb damage, so it now kills best when you aim low. Against the other early Recon rifles it sits in the middle:
| Rifle | Unlock | Per life | Chest hits | Time to kill |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Scout Rifle TD | Default | $1,200 | 3 | 7,500 ms |
| SKS | Recon 5 | $2,400 | 5 | 577 ms |
| Mosin-Nagant | Recon 10 | $4,500 | 2 | 1,250 ms |
| SVD | Recon 12 | $4,800 | 5 | 469 ms |
The Scout Rifle TD's 3 chest hits take 7,500 ms because every shot needs the bolt, which is why the SKS feels like a big step up at Recon 5. The Mosin trades that speed for raw damage: 2 hits, but over a second apart. The SVD needs the same hits as the SKS and lands them 108 ms sooner, with twice the listed range (800 against 400).
The SKS build, in the order you unlock it
Every part below sits on the Recon tree between level 5 and 11, so you can finish the build before you outgrow the rifle.
- Recon 5 SKS + 6x Precision Rifle Scope$3,080 The rifle and the scope every player starts with. Enough for your first Recon lives.
- Recon 6 Deadeye Flash Hider$400 Cheap, hides the muzzle flash a little and speeds up your aim-in. A placeholder muzzle.
- Recon 7 SKS Bipod$810 The one part that changes the rifle. Strong spread reduction and a strong aim-in boost, plus moderate recoil and sway reduction, once it is deployed on a flat surface.
- Recon 9 DTK-1 Brake$820 Replaces the flash hider. Moderate vertical and horizontal recoil reduction for a minor aim-in cost.
- Recon 11 3x-6x LPVO Short Dot$860 Swap in for the 6x when you start taking mid-range fights. It toggles between 3x and 6x, at a strong aim-in penalty.
The finished kit (rifle, 6x scope, bipod and DTK-1 Brake) costs about $4,710 a life. The Hexagon 762 Suppressor ($1,210) also fits, but it arrives at Recon 15, three levels after the SVD, which makes it a poor buy for the SKS.
How many hits does the SKS need to kill?
| Hit | None | L1 | L2 | L3 | L4 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Head | 2 | 2 | 3 | 3 | 3 |
| Chest | 3 | 4 | 5 | 5 | 7 |
| Stomach | 3 | 4 | 5 | 5 | 7 |
| Groin | 3 | 3 | 3 | 3 | 7 |
| Arm | 4 | 4 | 4 | 4 | 10 |
| Leg | 5 | 5 | 5 | 5 | 5 |
| Round | None | L1 | L2 | L3 | L4 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| FMJ (standard) | 3 | 4 | 5 | 5 | 7 |
| Hollow point | 2 | 9 | 12 | 19 | 33 |
| Armour-piercing | 4 | 4 | 4 | 5 | 5 |
- Aim at the groin. It takes 3 hits through a level 1, 2 or 3 vest, against 4 to 5 to the chest.
- Heads need two, then three. A bare head or a level 1 helmet takes 2 hits. From a level 2 helmet up it takes 3, so the head is no faster than the groin.
- Level 4 armour beats it. 7 hits to the chest or groin. That is the point to stop bringing an SKS.
Which ammo should the SKS use?
The SKS gets the earliest armour-piercing round of any marksman rifle. 7.62x39 armour-piercing unlocks at Career level 60 ($50,000), where .308 waits until Career 140 and 7.62x54 until Career 82. It holds the SKS at 4 chest hits up to a level 2 vest and 5 through level 4, against 7 with standard rounds.
7.62x39 hollow points unlock at Career 11 and kill an unarmoured chest in 2 hits. Any vest wrecks them: 9 chest hits through level 1. Load them only for early-wipe lobbies where almost nobody wears armour.
The catch with 7.62x39 is supply. Only the SKS and the TCX-SPR fire it, so you will rarely pick any up from the players you drop. Bring every round you plan to use.
How to handle SKS recoil
The SKS has the most repeatable pattern of any gun in Season 2 range testing, with heavy wobble, drift and climb on top. Repeatable means learnable: the kick goes the same way every time, so a few magazines in the range teach you the correction. Go prone with the bipod down whenever the terrain lets you, since it cuts the sway and spread. Standing, pace your shots and let the sight settle. The recoil guide has every marksman pattern side by side.
Frequently asked questions
Is the SKS good in WARDOGS Season 2?
As a levelling rifle, yes. It is the first marksman rifle on the Recon tree (level 5, $2,400 a life) and far quicker on follow-ups than the starter bolt-action. Season 2 slowed it to 5 chest hits through a level 2 vest, so most players move to the Mosin at Recon 10 or the SVD at Recon 12.
What are the best SKS attachments in WARDOGS?
The SKS Bipod ($810, Recon 7), the DTK-1 Brake ($820, Recon 9) and the 6x Precision Rifle Scope ($680, unlocked from the start), then the 3x-6x LPVO Short Dot ($860, Recon 11) for mid-range fights.
What level is the SKS in WARDOGS?
The SKS unlocks at Recon level 5 for $25,000 cash and costs $2,400 per life. Its bipod follows at Recon 7.
What ammo does the SKS use in WARDOGS?
7.62x39. Only the SKS and the TCX-SPR fire it, so you will rarely loot it from enemies. 7.62x39 armour-piercing unlocks at Career level 60 for $50,000, much earlier than armour-piercing for the bigger marksman rounds.
SKS or SVD in WARDOGS?
The SVD once you reach Recon 12. Both need 5 chest hits through a level 2 vest, but the SVD fires faster (469 ms against 577 ms) and has twice the listed range. The SKS costs $2,400 less a life.
