WARDOGS Recon Leveling (Fastest XP)
Recon is the fastest class to level in WARDOGS, and it barely needs aim. Buy binoculars, spot enemies, and if anyone kills a target you marked you earn Recon XP and cash. Spot your way to recon level 5 to unlock the SKS, the first marksman rifle worth carrying, and skip the starting scout rifle entirely. After that, keep spotting while you shoot so the rifle and the binoculars both feed Recon at once. Positioning, not accuracy, is what carries this class.
Why Recon is the easiest class to level
Every other class needs you to win fights. Recon pays you for information. Look through binoculars, hover an enemy until the mark locks, and you get an assist worth XP and cash if that target dies to anyone. You do not have to land the shot yourself. That means a bad aim day is still a good leveling day, which is why most players find Recon the quickest tree to climb early in a wipe, before everyone stacks heavy armour.
Spot your way to level 5, then buy the SKS
Do not touch the scout rifle. It cannot reliably kill an armoured player and it will only frustrate you. Instead, run the free assault rifle or the SKS-in-waiting plan: carry binoculars in your specialist slot, mark everything you see, and let your team do the killing. A game or two of steady spotting reaches recon level 5, which unlocks the SKS. Swap to the cheaper monocular when you can, since it is half the size in your inventory and can sit on a belt slot, so you keep spotting without giving up a weapon.
The recon unlock ladder
Once the SKS is in hand you level from the marksman rifle and the binoculars together. These are the unlocks worth planning around in the current Early Access build:
| Level | Unlock | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| 5 | SKS | First real rifle; mount the bipod to kill the recoil. Levels fastest because it gets the most kills. |
| 10 | Mosin-Nagant | Bolt-action that one-shots the head through a standard helmet. Slower XP than the SKS, but the classic sniper. |
| 17 | Bow | One-shots anyone in light armour anywhere on the body, with no damage drop-off. Silent and strong at medium range. |
| 24 | Ghillie suit | Blocks kill-cams and is what makes true long-range hiding work. |
| 35 | .50 cal (AMR-50) | One-shots the head through any helmet in the game. The end goal. |
Between the Mosin and the .50 cal you pick up the SVD, the SV-98 and semi-auto DMRs as you climb from the teens into the thirties. Any DMR is weak without a bipod, so mount it whenever you hold an angle.
Where to position for easy Recon XP
Recon rewards the map, not the crosshair. Three spots pay the most. Sit above an enemy FOB with a clear line into it and rain down shots; a bipod handles the recoil and you can stack 40 or more kills in a game from one perch. Hold high ground on the routes players take into the Hot Zone and pick them off as they funnel through. Best of all, sit next to a teammate firing anti-air at helicopters and spot each helicopter first: you collect a share of the XP and money from everyone who was aboard when it goes down.
Mount the bipod every time you settle on an angle, because it turns a recoil-heavy DMR into a near-zero-recoil beam. And keep spotting even after the SKS unlocks. The binoculars keep paying Recon XP on kills you never fire a shot at.
