WARDOGS Anti-Air Guide: Talon, CIWS & Verba
WARDOGS anti-air works in layers. The Talon 9K-SAM locks helicopters at range and baits their flares. The Vanguard CIWS shreds anything close, and its bullets ignore flares. On foot, the RPG-7 one-shots any helicopter with no lock warning, and the 9K333 Verba one-shots a Little Bird. One gunner rarely beats a good pilot. Two operators who force the flares and then fire the second shot usually do.
Helicopters carry teams to the Hot Zone, drop supplies and rocket FOBs, so a team with no anti-air loses the map to whoever flies. Anti-air also pays: support players rate the AA missile launcher as the best XP and cash earner in the class.
Every anti-air option compared
| Weapon | How you get it | Strength | Weakness |
|---|---|---|---|
| Talon 9K-SAM | FOB build: 1,000 supplies, large hammer, 3,000 health | Long-range missile lock; holding the lock baits flares | Cannot lock very low or very close targets; the pilot gets a lock warning |
| Vanguard CIWS | FOB build: 1,500 supplies, large hammer, 5,000 health | Bullets ignore flares; 2,000 rounds; also hits ground targets | Cannot aim straight up; operator sits at an exposed laptop |
| RPG-7 | $2,000, Support 5 ($30,000 unlock), $200 a rocket | One-shots any helicopter, no lock warning | Unguided, 300 m listed range; you have to lead the target |
| 9K333 Verba | $800, Support 16 ($50,000 unlock) | One-shots a Little Bird | Weighs 17.25; lock is by audio only; some creators skip it |
| Gepard | Rumoured for Season 2; in the game data at $10,000 | Mobile twin 35 mm anti-air cannons | Not in the game yet |
How to use the Talon SAM
The operator sits inside the Talon, which protects them, but the pilot hears a lock warning. Use that. Hold the lock early and a nervous pilot fires flares, and flares are one-time: once they are gone, the next missile is a kill. The Talon cannot lock a helicopter flying very low, below its radar, or one that is very close, and it loses the lock when a helicopter flies past or overhead. Leave those targets to the CIWS or an RPG.
How to use the Vanguard CIWS
The CIWS is the answer to attack helicopters. It fires bullets, so flares do nothing, and even the MI-28 Havoc loses a straight fight against it. It holds 2,000 rounds and can be turned on vehicles too. Its two weak points are the angle and the operator. It cannot aim straight up, so a smart pilot circles in the cone above it, and the operator works from a laptop that attackers aim for. Build it on raised sandbags behind a second wall so it has sightlines and cover.
Why two operators beat one pilot
A good pilot beats a single anti-air gunner most of the time: they fly low under the Talon, time flares for the last second or two before impact, or orbit above the CIWS. Two operators close all of those gaps. The first forces the flares, and the second fires into the reload window, when the pilot has nothing left. The same applies to shoulder launchers: two coordinated missiles get through flares that one never will.
Anti-air on foot
- RPG-7: the most reliable heli kill in the game. No lock, no warning, one hit. Carry three to five rockets and aim at a helicopter that is landing, hovering or dropping supplies.
- 9K333 Verba: a guided shoulder launcher that one-shots a Little Bird, but the lock is by sound, so it is hard to pinpoint where the target is, and at 17.25 it is heavy to carry.
- Small arms: shoot the pilot or an exposed door gunner. It is often easier than killing the helicopter.
Where to build anti-air
Inside a FOB, raised on sandbags, behind tier-2 walls, and spaced apart from your mortars and drills so one strike cannot take out everything. Finish it fast: unfinished builds have far less health, and enemy pilots delete a half-built CIWS first. Once finished, a CIWS takes 300 to 400 rounds to bring down. The step-by-step layout is on the FOB defense page.
Season 2 on 15 October adds rain maps, which creators expect to cut visibility for pilots and gunners alike. The rumoured Gepard would also give anti-air a mobile option for the first time. The Season 2 page tracks what is confirmed.
