WARDOGS Controller Settings & Setup Guide
Plug an Xbox or PS5 DualSense controller into your PC over USB or Bluetooth and WARDOGS auto-detects it; enable Steam Input if a DualSense is not recognized. As of early September 2026, controller support was still partial: full key binds and controller schemes were not yet customizable, but sensitivity, dead zones and inputs like ADS-on-hold could be tuned. Creator Swaguley's competitive DualSense config, covered below, keeps horizontal sensitivity noticeably higher than vertical and tightens the dead zones for cleaner tracking. WARDOGS also gives controller players slight aim assist, though Swaguley argues stick players are still at a disadvantage against mouse and keyboard in WARDOGS' longer-range fights.
How do you connect a controller to WARDOGS on PC?
Plug the controller in over USB or pair it over Bluetooth, then launch WARDOGS. The game auto-detects standard gamepad inputs on its own, so most Xbox controllers work immediately. A PS5 DualSense controller can sometimes go unrecognized; if that happens, enable Steam Input for WARDOGS in your Steam controller settings and relaunch. Once it is detected, open the in-game controller settings menu to see the available options. Customization was limited at the time these settings were recorded, and the details below cover exactly what could be changed.
As of September 2, 2026, custom key binds and full controller schemes were not yet changeable in WARDOGS. You can tune sensitivity, dead zones and a handful of input toggles in the Advanced settings menu, but you cannot remap buttons or swap layout presets yet.
Best controller sensitivity settings
These are the Advanced settings values from Swaguley's competitive DualSense configuration, recorded in September 2026. His opinion: vertical sensitivity should sit at roughly 50 to 70 percent of your horizontal value, and ADS sensitivity should drop well below your hip-fire sensitivity so aiming down sights feels controlled rather than twitchy. For the mouse-and-keyboard equivalents and the FPS options that apply on any input, see the best settings guide.
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Horizontal sensitivity | 2.3 |
| Vertical sensitivity | 1.6 |
| ADS multiplier | 0.35 |
| Gamepad response curve | Standard |
| Free cursor sensitivity | 2.0 |
| Gamepad vehicle multiplier | 0.5 (default) |
| Air vehicle multiplier | 0.8 |
The menu also has a look acceleration curve, with a multiplier, threshold and pitch weight to fine-tune. Swaguley set his to a linear curve with a 4.7 multiplier, a 1.0 threshold and 1.0 pitch weight, but flagged look acceleration as currently bugged and not behaving consistently. Treat it as a setting to revisit once it is fixed rather than one to build your sensitivity around.
Dead zones worth tuning
WARDOGS ships in a default stick mode that blocks dead zone customization entirely, so switch to custom dead zones before touching any of the values below. Swaguley runs his right stick noticeably tighter than the left, since that stick does the aiming.
| Stick / input | Setting | Value |
|---|---|---|
| Left stick | Center dead zone | 13% |
| Left stick | Axial dead zone | 3% |
| Left stick | Max input | 5% |
| Right stick | Center dead zone | 3% |
| Right stick | Axial dead zone | 1% |
| Right stick | Max input | 0% |
| Triggers | Dead zones across all four fields | 0, 5, 0, 5 |
Input toggles worth knowing
A few behavior toggles change how the controller feels before you touch a single number. Swaguley's config runs ADS on hold rather than toggle, steady aim on toggle, gamepad lean on toggle, and free cursor enabled.
- ADS: On hold.
- Steady aim: Toggle.
- Gamepad lean: Toggle.
- Free cursor: Enabled, at 2.0 sensitivity.
Is there aim assist in WARDOGS?
Yes. WARDOGS gives controller players slight aim assist in-game. Swaguley noted that in an earlier beta build, aim assist had a bug that let it track targets through walls; that report is tied to that beta build specifically, not a confirmed behavior in the current version, so do not rely on it. Recoil in WARDOGS is not especially heavy either way, so most of your fights come down to stick control, keeping the reticle tracking a moving target, rather than fighting recoil patterns.
Controller vs mouse and keyboard
Swaguley's take, from September 2026: controller players are at a real disadvantage against mouse and keyboard in WARDOGS, mainly because so many engagements happen at longer range, where a stick is harder to hold precisely on a small target than a mouse flick is. He assumes a DualSense controller for this whole breakdown; an Xbox pad or a third-party controller may feel different in the hand even with the same numbers dialed in. He is also hoping for vibration support and a fix to the look acceleration bug in a future update, on top of custom key binds.
