WARDOGS Factions: Best One & Is Lonestar Bad?
WARDOGS has three factions: Lonestar (blue), Valkyra (red) and Manticore (green). They are cosmetic only. Every faction buys from the same armory with the same weapons, stats, prices and unlocks, and none gets a spawn bonus or a perk. That means there is no best faction to pick and Lonestar is not bad. Choose the colour and story you like, or the side your squad is on. Any match your team loses comes down to who has more players and better coordination, not the flag.
A WARDOGS match drops 100 players onto one map and splits them into three armies fighting over a roaming Control Zone, first to 100 points. You pick a faction when you drop in. Almost every "best faction" or "is Lonestar bad" search assumes the choice affects how you play. It does not, and this page is the fast version of why, plus the one thing that actually decides your matches.
What are the three WARDOGS factions?
| Faction | Colour | Who they are |
|---|---|---|
| Lonestar | Blue | A private military contractor with a Texan streak that answers to whoever pays, not a flag. |
| Valkyra | Red | A state-backed force out to restore Soviet-era power and reclaim lost ground. |
| Manticore | Green | A covert strike army tied to a fictional Persia, built to leave no trace. |
Do factions change how you play?
No. All three shop from the same armory, so every weapon, armour tier, price and unlock level is identical no matter which side you join. There are no faction-only guns, no stat bonuses, no class perks and no spawn advantages. The only thing tied to a faction is cosmetic: the Supporter Edition sells faction-themed weapon skins, and your team colour on the map. Your loadout, your economy and your progression are the same on Lonestar, Valkyra or Manticore.
Is Lonestar bad in WARDOGS?
Lonestar is not mechanically bad. It has the exact same guns, gear, vehicles and unlocks as the other two, so nothing about the blue team is built to lose. Its reputation is a self-fulfilling prophecy, and it is worth understanding because it is real even though the mechanics are not. Most players try for Manticore first, settle for Valkyra next, and Lonestar is what is left, often because it is the default first option a new player clicks. So the blue team fills up with the newest and least coordinated players, loses more as a result, and the "Lonestar is bad" belief hardens, which pushes the next round of experienced players away again. The team is weaker on any given night because of who ends up on it, not because of the faction.
That means the fix is in your hands. A squad that communicates and holds a tower wins on Lonestar exactly as well as on the other two, and you often get an easier time doing it because the enemy underestimates blue. If you keep losing, the answer is coordination and a stacked squad, not a different flag.
Which faction should you pick?
Pick on two things that are real. First, play the side your friends are on, because a coordinated squad is the single biggest edge in a three-way fight and it does not exist across factions. Second, pick the colour you read fastest in a firefight, since telling friend from enemy at a glance saves you from wasting shots or dying to a teammate you misread. Beyond that it is pure preference of lore and look. There is no wrong answer and nothing to optimise.
Guides that rank the factions or show "win rates" are selling a decision that does not exist. What decides your match is how many teammates are pushing the Control Zone with you and whether they coordinate. Get that right on any faction and you win the same.
